Fountain House Gallery Presents “The Art of Democracy”
On view: September 8 – October 19, 2016/Reception: September 8, 6-8 p.m.
NEW YORK CITY – Fountain House Gallery (formerly Fountain Gallery), located at 702 Ninth Avenue and representing artists living with mental illness, announces the upcoming group exhibition The Art of Democracy. The show will open with a Reception on September 8, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will remain on view through October 19, 2016.
The Art of Democracy is curated by independent curator Anne Strauss. “I'm pleased to have been invited by Fountain House Gallery to curate a show for their program,” said Strauss. “In light of the upcoming elections and the ubiquitous discussion of politics, I invited gallery artists to engage in the conversation through their work. Selected artists have critiqued and commented on this enduring political spectacle and how it affects the world's view of America in this election year."
Among the mediums represented in The Art of Democracy are: acrylic and watercolor painting; pencil and pen and ink drawing; mixed media; and digital photography.
This program is supported, in part, by generous support from the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust.
